So in the interest of denying myself something I truly enjoy, for the purpose of exercising discipline in all things, I'm doing Sober October. That's right, no cocktails for the entire month and ramping up my workouts. Let's see how it goes.

Anyone want to join me?

I have been watching the alcohol September as well. I have found a definite connection between anything more than one drink and insomnia.

I'm doing this as more of a cleanse. I want to see if it has any effect on my joint pain. That and I like to deprive myself of things I like for short periods as a matter of exercised discipline.

I'll join you. Booze doesn't make me stronger, faster, smarter or better looking.

Makes me a better dancer.

I don't drink and never have, regardless of that fact...I wish you all the best success with your plans and training!

Yeah I'm in......although in the spirit of full disclosure, I'll be on a business trip for the next a couple of months and typically don't drink when I'm working anyway.

But nevertheless I'll still join you.

I'd be cheating on the first half--abstainer since 12/06. Ramping up the workouts? You bet.

"Booze doesn't make me stronger, faster, smarter or better looking. "

It did, until it didn't.

This depends on who’s drinking it.

I don’t drink enough to make abstaining worthwhile but I’ll ramp up workouts as well.

#MeToo?

I have never had a drink but I will gladly join the amped up workouts.

I have found this as well.

I read an article a few months back that this gets worse as we age. It said alcohol can help you fall asleep, but the sleep is not deep and you'll wake after a couple hours and find it difficult to fall asleep again.

I don't drink a lot to begin with, and when I do it's usually something expensive. I'm in it more for how it tastes than how it makes me feel, though it's definitely enjoyable when spending time either with brothers or with female company.

But I have found that my experience tracks with what was said in the article, and I can feel a difference even with one drink.

Moderation with alcohol is wise.

I've always said moderation is for cowards ;)

Given whom the OP is I think its only appropriate that the (un)official exercise be some sort of bicept curls.

YESSSSSS.... Let's all get biceptual, curls for girls, tris spread thighs, get them guns hugging the sleeves of your extra medium V necks.

I will be overseas on a contract for November and most of December so I will be sans alcohol then. Work shouldn't be busy so plenty of time for sprints, KBs and Barbells.

I predict you will fail. Mostly because you are a lush. And you are weak.

Yeah. Found out when I was younger that I could have just as much fun sober as drunk and then I could remember what I'd done the next day.

What sealed it for me was a ETS party at a pizza place one night where some of the guys were being louder and more obnoxious than normal. One guy was getting really bad and as we left I was trying to apologize to the waitress. I was drunk enough that the words coming out of my mouth were not the words that were in my head. After a couple attempts I just said, "Sorry," and left.

My buddy (in the Army) and my father-in-law both told me that when they drank they had an excuse to do things they wouldn't do when they were sober. Both were heavy drinkers who enjoyed fighting.

Good luck with your "test".

It's not really a test, more of an exercise. I drink regularly but not often heavily so dropping it is no big deal, it's more about exercising different action habits.

Sorry, didn't mean a test to see if you could do without it.

I meant a test to see if you got an improvement in the training/exercise performance you are doing.

It good to practice choosing the non-default option. Kinda what sets us apart from the animals.
