This was fun. Morricone is one of my favorites, and I never get tired of hearing the sound track of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. Fun to see some of the different parts performed as well.

Sergio Leone's movies were great. Some things I might have done different, if I had any movie making talent or ability. But the music...beautiful. Morricone is a master.

Excellent post Brent.

Here is one of my old favorites with Tex Ritter doing High Noon.

I don't use the word magnificent very often
but seems to be sum up my thoughts on the
two orchestra pieces.

It's the arts that separates us from the animals.

Different topic but it is our cultures that are mostly learned that include the arts that distinguishes us. What gives us dominance over other animal life has been our use of weapons and fire. What gives one group of humans over other humans is backed up with force usually involving weapons.

I play piano at my church and have pretty much no supervision on the intro "find your seats" song. I've played The Ecstasy of Gold, and Final Fantasy video game themes. Now some of these songs are majestic, and I don't find it blasphemous. And the people who do know just think it's funny.

barnetmill,

Good clarification, but I was
actually using the term "animals"
a little loosely, but was really
referring to the people from
certain $hit hole countries.

KING-FM runs a movie soundtrack show called The Score on Saturdays and Sundays at 4:00. Movie and TV scores are vastly underappreciated. Elmer Bernstein, Henry Mancini, Peter Rugolo, Jerry Goldsmith and Bernard Herrmann have had a lot more influence on American males of a certain age range than Mozart or Beethoven ever could. My personal favorite is Lalo Schifrin--you can hear echoes of his stuff or vice versa in Morricone.

And the Brits! Series like Danger Man, The Prisoner, The Avengers, The Saint, The Sandbaggers. Someday I'll make a tape...remember tape?

We just got back from my son's
middle school concert, and the
8th grade band used the doxology
as a warm up song. It was very
moving to me, hearing it done by
a concert band. I wish they would
have played through it several times.

Used to love the old movie themes. "The Apartment", most all of Mancini come to mind. Gonna have to google some music!

I understand the clarification.
For most the fecal aperture countries when and where it is legal their citizens still love western popular music. strange, maybe they like it for the same reasons that we do.

Mancini one of my favorites, cuz he is a native Western Pennsylvanian as myself.( Wine & Roses ..Pink Panther... Batari)
★★Morricone also in the top five , cuz great themes from "Westerns , & naturally ...The Godfather.★★
John Williams, Andre Previn , Leonard Bernstein... not to be forgotten.
