Would the SUAREZ PISTOL GUNFIGHTING SCHOOL be a good choice as a first experience with SI training or would I be better off taking one of the other pistol courses as a pre-requisite?

Also, is there any hope of another shotgun course this year?

It's well past time for me to get some SI training.

That course would be an excellent start.

Best SI class that you could take. You will get everything all at once! If there were just one course....this is it! A graduate level course in killing with a pistol.

This. If there is only one class you can take, this is the one.

Make sure to take notes when you have the opportunity so you can take the drills home. Class is the place where you identify your deficiencies, learn drills to improve them, and then it's up to you to take them home and own them. It's very unlikely that you'll get enough reps in a class to truly own any new skill in 2-3 days of class.

Thanks Gents, sounds like that's what I'd better do.

I need the shotgun course too. Any hope of another one of those this year?

You should take the course. Pay the money. Book the flights, reserve the hotel and rental car. And GO.

Disclosure: I was a cop for 23 years, and a Firearms/SWAT Tactics/DT Instructor for over 15. I ran firearms training for 3 different agencies and for a small company in the private sector. I’ve attended a BUNCH of firearms courses over the last 20 years, as a LEO Firearms Instructor and as a private citizen, including the FBI SWAT school, Gunsite, Northern Red, Red Force, HK, and others.

I only state this to provide context when I say Suarez International’s Complete Pistol Gunfighter is an outstanding course and one of the best I’ve ever attended.

There is SO much information and opportunity to really learn and improve in this class. Great work on the Fundamentals, refining your concealed carry/draw/presentation, proactive work out to 200 yards, working multiple targets, reactive/close-quarter work with focus on explosive/effective movement, PLUS force-on-force drills to really bring the reactive concepts home.

Mr. Suarez, Mr Yamamoto, and Mr. Nichols (who taught my course) are exceptional instructors and truly gifted teachers. They are teaching proven techniques and concepts based on their real-world experiences, in which they actually won/dominated real fights including lethal encounters. (And have been proven by numerous students in their own encounters.)

Their “chalk talks” between drills on mindset, legal issues, and their honest sharing of experiences as “teachable moments” are practically worth the price of admission by themselves. They are true professionals with a genuine passion for giving all they have learned to others who come with an empty cup and want it filled.

The rest of the SI team who are onsite are a wealth of knowledge on gear, gunsmithing, mods, fixing issues with your equipment etc. Plus you have the opportunity to see and try SI’s in-house/proprietary mods and gear as they perform in the real world. (Which is exceptionally well. All my carry guns could be SI catalog demo units. And all have thousands of rounds through them without issue.)

When I attended a couple of years ago, I flew in from out of state, rented a car, stayed in a hotel, ate dinners in Prescott, etc. (Prescott is a great town as well.) It was definitely an investment, but one I would (and will) make again as the returns far outweigh the cost.

I get this sounds really effusive, but if you are looking for truth in training, this is it. Simply put; for a person who has decided to conceal carry a pistol for their own protection and that of their loved ones, I do not think there is a single better training course available.

Right on Doc. I’m trying to get to this one as well. I told the wife it’s about time I attend a Suarez class and this is the one I’d like to be the first. I’ll know in a few weeks whether or not I can go due to work. I hope to see you and everyone else there.
