What is the consensus on "LE ONLY" ammunition? I don't mean AP or the like, I mean things like Hornady TAP, Winchester Ranger, Federal LE Flite Control. Should civilians be able to purchase the same ammunition that police officers are issued to protect said civilians? Do you do business with companies that refuse to sell this ammunition to civilians?

If a company doesn't want to sell something that they imply has higher QC and closer manufacturing tolerances? OK, they are losing out on selling more of that ammo, but are avoiding any higher production costs. Also, my understanding is that ammo companies make batches (lots) and then may set the line up for another type of ammo. As a hypothetical example a batch of 115 gr Ranger followed by a batch of 124 gr Ranger followed by White Box. The LE Only restriction slows demand so they can keep making the various types of ammo on a planned schedule.
I wouldn't boycott a company that wouldn't sell me LE ammo, but I don't see alot of stores putting LE Only ammo out on the counter/website just to tell me I can't buy it. I also don't look for the LE ammo because the differences between LE Only and the non-restricted premium ammo (Gold Dot, HST, etc.) doesn't leave me feeling under-gunned.

It's my understanding that the "LE only" ammo is for contract lots of ammo. Meaning only that it's to be shipped to LE agencies and generally at a discount price, but not that it's legally restricted from sale to civilians
And in fact, the ammo isn't different or better than that company's other premium lines. To that end... no, I won't boycott a company for fulfilling these types of contractual obligations

I am mainly referring to retailers like GTDistributors, etc. who will sell you ammunition from the LE lines only after LE credentialing. It's not to fulfill any contracts.

After hearing the typical open carrying overweight fuds clamoring to disown YETI on social media after the NRA threw a tantrum..... the word boycott leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I spent the last two days drinking Starbucks Sumatra single origin french press out of a YETI cup while carrying my gen 3 Glock.....and flipping off everyone who uttered the word boycott.

I guess I was just never into any of the above (aside Glocks)

That is normally only for the price, not restricting the sale of the ammo ever to "normal people."

Sounds like my favorite Dennis Leary song "I'm an asshole"

This is not the case in our current environment.

So spend your money where you want. There are ample places to buy good ammunition.

I will add this.
All "gun owners" are not equal. This equality thing is silly. I was going to write more...but why.

Yep. Some people will wring hands. Some will shop elsewhere. Some won't care. Some will. Etc.

This is very true.

1. Unless the LEOs are MPs, they are civilians.
2. I see no constitutional reason to ban AP rounds. Such laws were made by commies in the 1980s.
3. "Law Enforcement Only" is often a marketing tactic. People will see it and then want it because they see it as better than what they can buy, and then when they see someone selling it to anyone they'll snatch it up. The same can happen when the company finally decides to sell it to anyone, if the campaign was successful people will rush to buy it once it is on the open market. Sometimes putting "restricted" on a book or video cover makes people want it more.
Sometimes it can be a bit silly and people will make fun of the company, like when Benchmade had their pushdagger as a "law enforcement only" item. IIRC Cold Steel had a billy club that was also "LEO only." lol

I used to would have made the same argument (in fact, I did, but was unable to back it with facts, and indeed discovered the opposite, as follows), but I looked up the word "Civilian" in multiple dictionaries, and they all show this to not be correct, at least according to the accepted definitions of the word. Shocked me, too.

Agreed. Same for NFA, although I can think of more arguments to remove suppressors from the NFA list than anything else, really.

Per the distributor in this specific case, their refusal to do business without LE credentials is driven by a contract with the manufacturer.

Nobody cares about the meaning of words anymore...and in practical terms...the difference means nothing in 2018. What word shall we debate next "gay"?

And unless you want to go overthrow the government, it doesn't matter. The big complaint was from the Salvation Army types that wanted to spend less on their kid's education than on ammo

THAT is true. Problem is that cops are cheaper than the AK community

If this is the next realm of discussion let me know so I can begin closing threads and banning select people summarily. There are plenty of snake flag forums online where you can commiserate on the excesses of government and the jack boots on your necks because you can't buy AP for your garand...this is not one of those places.
