I can say that I truly appreciate the fact the world is getting smaller in some respects.

A pit stop and a gift scored a really nice dark. I'll have to check on some more, VERY nice.

A good German dark beer. Hand delivered.

I have never seen it, and I love German beers.

Is the pic showing? I posted from 2 boxes and had issues with the picture.

Inconsistent with paleo. However, imo, this country, by way of the craft brew bubble, is producing the best beer in the world. Stone, Ballast Point on the West coast; Victory, Heavy Seas, etc. on the East; and a LOT in between. Give the local boys a shot. They're good.

Oh don't get me wrong, we're doing some good things now. I just have a soft spot for German beers that dates back to Coors being exotic east of the Mississippi.

And, we're entirely in sync

There's a lot of good local brews around STL, and as said you can get beer from all over the world now. I do enjoy trying new ones, especially darker brews. I'm pretty thin and lean and eat fairly well, but my wife points out that I could probably get back the six pack I had when we got married if I stopped drinking beer.

Yeah, that Mississippi boundary was real. The first Mardi Gras I attended, I discovered that the price of Coors in NOLA was exactly the same as Heineken! :scratchchin:

There is a law in Germany which prohibits to add anything but water, barley and malt when brewing beer.
It has been released in the middle ages and is still in effect.

Thatīs why German beer is superior to any other beer.

We visited my brother in Maryland over the holidays and got to enjoy some heavy seas. Excellent beer. I wish they could make it to Iowa like Ballast Point and Stone have.

Trois Pistoles, excellent Canadian beer of the Trappist style. Tastes similar to Chimay, but IMO better. Also has a gnarly logo.

The best beer is one that is paid for by somebody else!

Can't imagine that wouldn't be advantageous, given... MD. We're celebrating the repeal of the rain tax TO-DAY, but we've a long way to go so far as being biz-friendly.

There was a time it was nothing to pound 18 Bud Lights. Not that it never happens anymore, but thanks to a good wife and just plain growing up, the last couple years I've chosen quality over quantity. I'm not a microbrew snob but Schlafly is local and has several excellent styles. Tonight's bon vivant selection:

Schlafly is good stuff. If you get to Jefferson County stop by Main and Mill for some interesting brews.

Despite my flippant answer earlier, I find that as I have aged my taste has changed. I have developed a taste for Porter...I look for one that is not too malty and not overwhelmed by hops. Most of the IPAs I have tried are just too sweet and those not sweet have so much hops you can taste nothing else. So, I default to local Porters. Here in Athens we have several micro-brews who do a good job.

Sprung for some Gaelic Ale out of Asheville, NC. I like. Just for comparison, I also like Sam Adams Boston Lager. Having said that, it doesn't seem the darkish beers ever get as cold or as thirst-quenching as the lighter ones. Though I've not tried a lot. Years ago I had a drink of Fehrs, "canned pasteurized draft beer". Real creamy. I've never seen it again.

This Black Bear Stout is remarkably delicious. Much more dense than Guinness but not overkill like Sierra Nevada's Stout. [At least, the Sierra Nevada was overkill last time I assessed it.]

A surprisingly light-bodied stout with hints of chocolate and coffee. Despite being the same color as the dark side of the moon, this beer has a subtle and intricate mouth feel. The Black Bear XX Stout has won two medals at the Great American Beer Festival.

Ooh, I gotta try that. Sounds good. Although I do like the Sierra Nevada Stout too. Founders also makes a good porter which is a little heavy for some but I like it.

Sam Adams Cream Stout for me tonight. Worked late and grabbed this on the way home, with some charcoal to grill some burgers and pork steaks. Life's pretty good.

If you like stout, you cannot go wrong with North Coast Old Rasputin. It's a Russian Imperial that is super smooth.

All good choices mentioned here. If you have some basic chemistry background you can actually brew some pretty amazing beer yourself.

I have a few batches going now saving up for the holidays.....
