Im saying good bye to Castle Edelweiss. It served me well for years and Mom/Dad Edel before me. I took over as Laird when Mom got sick and eventually passed on. The hordes tried to burn me out a few years back (attic fire); but she was built even stronger than before. I added a hidden vault room with bullet resistant walls and upgraded the interior to include plans for heavy (interior) shutters with firing slits. The exterior was landscaped with defense in mind, (anti personnel thorns under the windows), and range cards at the likely firing points. The cannon storage "shed" is accessible from the rear door.

I never completed the "zombie" fence (8' fence with 8x8 support poles); but theres a good start. I had plans to reinforce the exterior walls with sand bags, that never made it to the top of the list; neither did the "toe poppers" I had wanted to put on the front lawn.

If I had it all to do over, I would have added a fire suppression system for the exterior roof, and attic firing ports; but most of all a secret escape from the secret room--because you just cant have enuf' secrets...... Ok and maybe a "mantrap" on the front porch in front of the "Go Away" door mat.

Im saying bye to Castle Edelweiss and hello to HeadShrinkHer's Wolf's Lair. Yes honey we do need to paint those rocks white..... No they have to be exactly there, just like that other pile of white rocks over there and over there too. See how they stand out, isnt that nice....... OK kids whos filled the most sand bags?

On the market?

Post a link for those trapped behind enemy lines looking for a defensible fortress.

Are you leaving the punji sticks and claymore in the front yard?

I got a moving crew for the big stuff. Turns out they were all Russian. They hesitated when they saw boxes of Tula ammo. I had to open them to show that it was just junk inside nit ammo...

Have to be sure its "sanitized",before I let the broker list it. Hope to get it listed inna week or so....

Zombie fortresses are expensive. And when you explain your plans, builders will all think you are insane. But I agree--an escape tunnel is a must-have.

Actually another WTer came up with the idea as we were emptying the "safe room" (......errr nursery, walk in closet, sex room, Im still not sure how its gonna be listed). He suggested that since its on the exterior wall, if it had a door that was covered by the siding, it would appear normal from outside, and in the event I was inside and BGs has discovered the room and were trying to get in (unlikely), then all i had to do was open the other door and use a knife to cut through the siding.... Thats assuming the remotely deployed pepper spray grenades didnt change their minds.

As for cost it really wasnt that expensive since we were starting from scratch (a fire had gutted the house). I sacrificed a tiny bedroom and moved the entrance to the master bedroom behind a built in bookcase. If I ever do it again, Ill add more matching bookcases in other rooms for cover.

The architect actually had fun with it. We spent awhile searching for the best way to conceal the entry. I had wanted it in the back of a closet; but this is better. The worse part was when one of the construction guys got arrested by one of my guys, for DWI and was so proud that he had built it for a cop, that he told them all about it. I figure if he told cops he might tell others, so we had a "talk" about secrets. I held back the part about how all the builders of the pyramids were executed to be sure the secrets didnt get accidentally told.........
