Taking a break from unpacking with my friend the Kraken and enjoying the sounds of gun fire as some neighbors let a few rounds fly.

Thanks guys, greatly appreciated. I'm enjoying it, but kind of scared of the yard work ahead! It's nice being out of the city and in a somewhat semi-rural area. The commute to work takes a while, but so worth it, especially on the weekends.

Don't be afraid of the yard work. Think of the great field of fire you can set up with known yardage to markers you set (no one needs to know the different features are measured for placement) and guarantee those first round hits. The commute may suck, but the home 20 looks wonderful.

The idea of the yard markers is a great idea! Thaw would make an interesting side project during the landscaping.
We finished off yesterday with a visit from Ted's daughter. She stopped by for a breakfast burrito dinner with me and the wife and hung out for a bit to relax. A good time had by all.

Hahahahaha, no know section 8 no go zones... But have seen some land that could be occupied by hoarders.

I second the range markers. At my old place, I started with "home made" panoramic photos of the front and back of the house (I stood on the porch and took a lot of pics turning slowly from left to right but from the same point. I over lapped them for my "Fish Eye" view. Then used a range finder to plug in fixed points. I used "known" points like street signs or house on the corner and intersection, etc; because my neighbors wouldnt let me put a pile of white rocks on their lawn....
Dont forget to "LOOK" at your house/property from the POV of attackers. Remember that when you landscape! Dont give them anything to hide behind while insuring you have cover. ABATIS should be your new favorite word.

Yes, definitely make a range card for you property. When I moved into my new house some trees were marked with white spray paint to define the edge of clearing. Took my rangefinder and measured the distance to all of them, plus added a few more markers. You never know it might be useful oneday.

When landscaping, mulch is your friend. I've ringed my "redneck zen" garden with mulch in all the areas we used to fight the weeds and grass, especially up around the house and near the shed and along the fence. Cut down on my mowing time by 50%. Also, I plan on setting up "decorative" areas that are actually obstacles for practicing cover/concealment with airsoft. I'm in the middle of a suburban neighborhood, so a privacy fence is necessary. I love it ... it keeps me from looking at the neighbors when I wanna be alone.
Congrats on the new digs Steve!!

Mulch is great around the yard, but mulching around the house I would recommend rock or brick bits. There will be no silent approach anywhere around the building.
