Hey, gang: not sure where to post; going to Pigeon Forge this weekend, just a quick getaway! Anybody in the area for a beer or burger?

Dang, wish I was back home I would come down and say howdy. My folks are about an hour and a half up in VA from PF. Great touristy place with still a good downhome feel to it. At least on my last visit. Been about 10 years though ...lot of social engineering can happen in that amount of time :-\
Have fun. There used to be a great catfish place there somewhere ....

I was just up in Norton this weekend seeing a friend. My family lives down 58, about an hour and a half past Abingdon.

It's gotten way more depressed than even 10 years back. Our dear leader and some other market issues have killed the coal industry in that region.

Been to PF several times, but it's been a few years. SMKW on the agenda along with Bass Pro & Cabela's in Bristol. Main interest is to chill out and a good meal or two!!!! Oh, yeah, probably hit the Orvis shop, too.

I'm thinking more west and I think you meant east of Abingdon. Neat country there...I used to drive that 58 occasionally but the dang VA state troopers were ruthless down that way. Been a long time since I was in that area. 97 ish.
I keep thinking about where that catfish place is to tell the OP but I'm too foggy on it now.

They built a Bass Pro at exit 407 a few years ago so you can do both that and PF at the same time!

AAR: Spent 20 bucks on flies at Orvis, 4 bucks on a fire striker at SMKW!! Got a couple shirts for "cover garments" at Bass Pro. I could spend mega bucks at Orvis just on clothes. SMKW is awesome. Hadn't been there in several years, they've got some junk but some great stuff, too (no 22WMR!!). Guns and ammo are about the same price as LGS. Quality knives and tac clothing, too. Wound up eating at Olive Garden, always good.

Was "comfortable" the whole time. Love the free states!!
