Yep, thatall do
Been lucky so far, less than 3 inches all year. The cold just set in last week so I am good with it. Any good reason for a drink works though.

I live in East Texas so any snow at all is unusual to me. I've been in Illinois since Sunday working at a Marathon refinery. I'm not used to this weather! But I am surprised how quickly I adapted to the cold.

Merry Land is expecting two feet coming in at an inch/hour staring early evening Friday. Now I know for some of you thats a balmy afternoon; but the Merry folks will be abandoning their vehicles in the middle of the road and screaming for help because they werent dressed for the weather thats only been forecasted for a week. Im working evenings Friday and Saturday and we got the warning order today for us to be prepared to stay until a thaw... The boss said bring food and drinks and bedding and clean underwear.....

It's 23 degrees here in Virginia. It's very windy out there. Snow is coming down hard. I can't even open the front door right now because of all the snow up against it. It's freakin dangerous out there! And the worst is yet to come...

Time to fire up that Quattro for a Scotch run Edel!
Got a dusting here in Atlanta... I actually wish we would get more... Reminds me of the North! At least the miscreants are quiet when it's cold... I guess their asses get cold because there aren't any insulated boxers for their elective use of belts.

Having spent many years in places like Michigan, North Dakota, Illinois and West Virginia, I'm chuckling at the weather forecasters and news people pissing and moaning about how bad it is out there in the Richmond, VA area. If I wasn't retired, I'd have driven to work this morning, no problems (except for the non-drivers out there getting in the way.)
Yesterday, I swept about 6" of very dry dusty snow off the porches, hand rails and sidewalks around the house and garage (this morning, between the sleet and wind last night, it's back - can't even tell I cleaned it off yesterday).
After I came in from the second dog walk of the day (yesterday) I left the P07 on the table, got the P09 (both .40's) and field stripped them to brush them out, lube them up (I'm an over oiler) and wipe them down before reloading them and putting them back in their spots. Today I'll get the P09 9MM and the 1911 out (and maybe the P14, it's been awhile for that one) and field strip, lube and reload them. This afternoon/evening I might get the SIG 556R and one of the AR15's out and field strip, lube and wipe them down.
That kind of stuff takes me back to good memories and for awhile, the outside storms doesn't exist.
And, I'll have another big bowl of the chili my wife made for supper yesterday and a good hot cup of coffee.

Here in southern West Virginia we've got 6-20" depending upon where you measure and where the last gust came from. Storm started on a South wind early Friday morning but swung around to the North last night. Hung the Frontier up in the drive a while ago, needs new tires. Neighbor will plow me out a little later and that should put us in decent shape for the duration. Food, fuel, and ammo in good order. GSD's having fun in the snow.
Stay safe, and warm, Y'all!

Bob,
Where in SE WV? I used to live in the western end of Greenbrier County, right where it butts up to Fayette and Nicholas counties. Was back home visiting my mom and brother about 2 weeks ago, maybe 3 weeks this weekend. It's way colder up there, that part of Greenbrier Country, than down here. Mom said is was -18 F when she went to bed the other night. I remember walking out on the front porch on days like that and feeling my sinuses stiffen up when I took a breath through my nose. This morning she said it looked like about 18" on the bench out by the fence and it was still coming down.
The only thing I don't miss about home is the salt on the roads in the winter time. I hate having my vehicles rust out. Down here, in VA, I've got a 42 year old Camaro with less rust than a 5 or 6 year old car would have up there.

A good tip when getting a lot of snow like this is to shove/blow snow as its coming down. Even through the night. Its much easier and less strain. I also like to drive my truck up and down the street to the main road so I don't get totally snowed in. The first time we got 3-4 feet of snow after moving here we were shoveling the streets to get out lol. The second time I kept it knocked down with my truck lol.

I was initially disappointed that my flight home was canceled due to the storm. The I remembered I was here46635 and not home shoveling snow.

It's all perspective, I like snow. I lived in Florida when I was young. I can't live in a place that doesn't get snow.

M1A: southern Raleigh County, near Winterplace Ski Resort just off I-77. About 3200 feet. You from around Anjean?
Had a 4-5 yr old Ford Escape. My first vehicle with auto all wheel. Not sure I was gonna like that but didi fine in the snow as long as not too deep. Traded it in and wife told salesman "I was hoping it would make 1 more winter." When she took the extra key and spare tire back a couple days later she was told "No, ain't gonna happen". Frame was rusted from all the salt on the turnpike.

Not Anjean, though it's just a few miles away across the mountains if I cross over and walk down Brown's Creek to the hard road.
Marfrance. A mile or so past Quinwood, at the end of the road. I used to tell my Army buddies, turn right off Rt. 20 in Quinwood, take the left fork in the hard road and stay on it till the hard road ends. Take the right hand dirt road and when it ends you'll be in front of grandma's house. I do love to be up there just about any time, but only get up there about once a month for a 2 or 3 days. It's been "home" since I was a little kid and 58 years later, it's still home. All the firewood you'd every need. All the clean cold water you'd ever need. Rasberries (red and black, but mostly black), black berries, wild straw berries, all kinds of apples (though not every year, you know how those late frosts can be) and peace and quiet.

Yeah, I've been through Quinwood several times in the old days. Probably even Marfrance once or twice. God's country for sure!! Lots of game and native trout up there.
Stay safe.

Yesterday (Saturday) I was scheduled for 3-11 shift. I started shoveling around 8:30 and with each shovel I fought a personal battle "Call out" vs "Duty" and "F This" vs "If I dont go in, somebody cant go home" and "I hate those F-ers" vs "They are my other family"....basically just bitching to keep me warm. Yes I went in. I did have some help from a neighbor who plowed the long common driveway-otherwise I would have been truly F'd. So I got to work 2 hours early and hung while the day shift started filtering back for early relief.
We were down to 2 cars (Suburbans) for the whole precinct. The smaller SUVs just werent cutting it. We ran 4 guys in each truck, even so most of the side streets were impassable even in the Suburbans, and when we could get down the street, it was like an Everest expedition getting from the truck to the house. By the time I got to the door I was in a foul mood especially when it was for a lame call. Its bad enough to call the government when your teenager wont listen on sunny days but dont expect a happy cop whos had to swim through 3 feet of snow when you tell him youre a Fd up excuse for a parent and you spawned another generation of BLM Hillary supporters....but those were the easy calls, my favorites were the "Disabled Motorists" read that as "I went to get my kids from the baby daddy in my Hodna Civic and now Im stuck--so come get me and my babies". I tried to get psyched up like it was a rescue mission for a pilot shot down behind enemy lines and we were the Sand ies for close air support; but after number two I realized they were less like pilots more like Folk Singers who went to play peace songs to ISIS.....

That's funny shit there Edelweiss.......I'd be pissed as well going to useless calls after walking through 3 feet of snow..i wonder what those morons would do if they knew/realized that no one was coming to save their worthless hide....Dummies who get stuck in cars with summer tires should get billed for their lack of brain cells. Usually in my area, about 6" of snow will grind things to a halt.....that and freezing rain. Its the usual thing, only those with 4x4 and good snow tires can get around. If we had the snow you guys are getting, every guy with a sled would be out....and those with snow shoes......4x4's would stay parked until roads were plowed.....

Anybody else thinking weather events like this (snow, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes etc) is just God dumping some chlorine in the gene pool, and instead of us letting the scum sink to the bottom for the vacuum, we risk everyone to save the algae???
