What are some movies and TV shows that show spome decently realistic gun handling and/or combat tactics?

The show "Strike Back" comes to mind. Not only was it more realistic (gun handling wise) than most shows but it was highly entertaining as well.

The GF and I are looking to have a movie day Sunday and we want some stuff more based in realism to watch.

Collateral is one of my favorites that at least has a story line. Some pretty good trigger work.

The Unit is my #1 favorite TV show ever--4 seasons, ended way too soon in my opinion. I think all 4 seasons are on Amazon Prime. I can't speak with authority as to the authenticity of their portrayal of Delta, but it's surely better than the standard Hollywood portrayal of guns and shooting. It seems they made a good effort at realism with the show.

Yep, decent movie. We are adding it to the Sunday list.

Agree. Seen every season at least twice. Check out "Strike Back" (Cineamax version not the one with the dude from the walkign dead in it). It like "The Unit" on steroids.

"Way of the Gun" with Benicio Del Toro and Ryan Phillipe being chased by James Caan; great gun handling across the board.

"Thief" with James Caan. "Heat" with Pacino and Deniro.

"Sicario" has a thread its own elsewhere.

"Tears of the Sun" is a good one about SEALs, as is "Act of Valor" (real SEALs), "Zero Dark Thirty" also pretty good.

I, too, am a huge fan of "Strike Back" and "The Unit" (Eric Haney, early Delta man was advisor on the series, that was created after he advised on the movie "Spartan".)

Besides the Unit, I loved the TV show Sledge Hammer.

Besides being highly comically entertaining, they used a wide variety of handguns in the show. http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Sledge_Hammer!

The show episodes can be found on YouTube.

We watched The Player on our hulu, not sure what channel originally aired it. Same guy was in Strike Back, genuinely awesome shooting & gun handling...even if the show is stoopid.

Ronin, Heat, TWOTG, Sicario, Sinners and Saints

Forget Tears of the Sun, knuckleheads mounted their Aimpoints backwards!

If you want OLD School Miami Vice (TV) was good. Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan and even Cross of Iron and The Wild Bunch. I loved Wild Geese if you can get past the "nuclear" hand grenades.

Im a huge Mark Sullivan (Nitro Express Safaris) fan if you like big guns on charging game

You could always just watch Gabe's collection???

I agree, Ronin was a very good movie for guns use.

I also like the TV series Soldier of Fortune, Inc. Tim Abell was in 2nd Ranger Bn and attended US Army Ranger School in the same class as me (RS 5-78); SEAL Humphreys did the consult on this one.

I also like Quigley Down Under

Open Range is another good one:

There is also a lot of 'accurate' gun work in Appaloosa, too:

Keanu reeves in Street Kings and John Wick. Not saying anything about the movies as a whole, but his gun handling skills were solid.

These two came to mind for me also.

What? Nothing in John Wick was anything like a real fight, it just looked cool (and was entertaining). Cool does not mean effective.

Watch COPS if you want to see "realistic". You want truly realistic? Watch CCTV footage or clips from the Syrian conflict. Realistic does not mean stylized, realistic is just simple and effective, and most of the time ugly.

Second "Act of Valor", and "The Unit". "Open Range" is awesome, but don't start counting rounds fired out of their "6" shooters...

A great movie in the period was Thief with James Cann. He used Govt Model built by James Hoag, Cann was shown how to use the pistol by Chuck Taylor.

I just recently watched "The Unit" and the first two seasons of "Strike Back". They're both very good shows. The Unit is more heroic; and Strike Back has a more life sucks, grittier feel to it. I'm a sucker for heroes, so I enjoyed The Unit more, but Strike Back is also great. Strike Back also has a decent amount of nudity (usually showing a pair each episode, it's Cinemax), so you probably don't want to watch it around the kids.Just you wait til the upcoming seasons, you get to see a former SAS guy with his "boy toy"!

The Hit List and Sinners and Saints. Sonny was the technical director for all the gun stuff.

Some mentioned Spartan. Val Kilmer did a bang up job in that one ( though the ad on discussions with the actors show him high as a kite )

We got halfway thru Sinners and Saints before we decided to move on to Sons of Anarchy.

Nothing against Sonny (I know hes the real deal) but I didn't see much realism in the half of the movie I watched. Not why we stopped though, we just thought the movie was boring.

The Jesse Stone movies. Tom Selleck carries a 1911, and does a wicked Mozambique in the latest one.
