I know some people who bought one; either this same thing or some similar operation (aged 3 years, waiting list, super expensive). I had some. Don't get me wrong, it was good. But not $800 good, if you know what I mean. I dunno; if I had a ton of disposable money I'd buy stuff like this occasionally "just because".

That's crazy expensive but it got me to thinking - we got a few acres covered in oak trees and neighbors with pigs ...
Fence woods - throw pig out there a few weeks ...

That diet is pretty much what a whole lot of the wild hogs here live on.
Now that might be a hobby hunting and curing wild hog meat.

Now that might be a hobby hunting and curing wild hog meat. There may be some health issues with wild boar meat. There are people that trap them. Such pigs are often fed corn or something for a period prior to slaughter. A fellow I went hunting with years ago killed a young hog and he said it was quite good. The same fellow is shooting wild hogs in the back of his property where he has his veterinary practice. I have not asked how those feral pigs are tasting.

I will be talking to some of the Ark. Fish and Game people first about what they might be infested with.
If it's not worth the effort and risk I won't bother.

Oh man... Cured ham is kryptonite for me.... I as nervous around a platter of charcuterie at a social function as a crack addict around a crack house.... It takes every social etiquette fiber of my being to be moderate! Lol

It's black Spanish hogs that eat wild acorns, that ham melts in your mouth and is worth every penny.

That's the main problem here with the dang boring beetles. Killing off a lot of the oaks and as a result not as many acorns. Yeah I know we got "mutt" wild hogs here but I'm wanting to experiment some after I move deeper into the Ozarks to get away from the local libtard infestation.
Not putting down that import stuff at all sounds pretty tasty.

IIRC correctly one of the disease issues with feral pigs is brucellosis. This more of an issue for commercial sale of meat. They will likely also have parasites.

How many McRibs you think can be made with that? :)

Spanish Iberico ham is "almost" worth the money. It really does melt in your mouth.
In the US, Berkshire ham is made from a heritage pig that is fed entirely on acorns. A lot less expensive and also very good. Berkshire bacon is just yummy and doesn't run $50lb.

Wild hogs have a thing they get in their testicles, but I don't remember what it's called. But you are supposed to hang them by their front hooves and skin the from the head down. That's what a state biologist told me anyways.
I don't remember what it's called or what it does to me if I don't skin them backwards.

I don't remember what it's called or what it does to me if I don't skin them backwards. Domestic pigs were traditionally hanged by a hind leg upside down while alive and stabbed at the base of throat IIRC what I took to be into the heart of the pig. The intent is like with any mammal is to bleed the pig out.
