Searched/failed! Used to be a "wine snob" thread??? Think it was Gabe who mentioned Carnivoir. Not bad. I'm retired and poor, so "frugal". Usually prefer dry reds, Tried Clos du Bois 2013 Chardonnay today. Pretty damned good and I'm not a Chardonnay drinker. $10+ a bottle, then saw it at Wal-Mart:flapper: for $6.97. Also, recently tried Alamos Malbec @ $8.98 a bottle; new favorite.
Cheers, das strovia!

If you can pour it, I'll drink it, usually........
Sis gave me a $100 bottle of Scotch, first sip tasted like iodine. Rest of the bottle was pretty good. From Isle of Skye IIRC.

Not much of a wine drinker myself, but I when I do, I like one of the Muscadine wines from Feliciana Cellars in Jackson, La.
$9.99 a bottle and great with anything --- "19 Crimes". It's an Australian blended red.

I drink and make both.
Its that stuff for people who enjoy the finer things in life.
EDIT: for the OP, you should seek out and try a New Zealand wine called Red Wire. It's a very good blend...not to dry, not too sweet. Just right for most occasions.

Normally a nice red wine guy but for Thanksgiving Illinois Cellars Bavarian Apple Wine - made with local apples - a little like a good German Reisling

That sounds interesting, I'm guessing it's like cider just without the fizz?

Just had it for the first time and it was a nice surprise. Excellent with a slow smoked roast and sweet potatoes.

It's equally fantastic with a rib-eye and a salad, bison burger or roast leg of lamb and roasted root vegetables. A very versatile wine at a bargain price.

Johannesburger Red. Not overly dry, with a deep fruity almost (very almost) sweet to it. Tall Horse merlot, nice fruity Red, dry, but very nice. Dont enjoy Cabernet Souvignion, bit 'course' for my taste. Do you guys get Merlot's there. Realy worth a try. There is a cheap brand 'Four Cousins' more commonly known for there sweet wines. They have a very nice red aswell. Then we have the Cape Favourite, Tassenberg. Every bottel tastes different. The cheapest red you can find over here. Every once in awhile I'd buy a bottle, sometimes they are ok, but mostly not a horse you want to saddle.

We don't have a "wine shop" within several counties. But will definitely search for some of these. Thanks, guys!
Bob, You have a wine shop as close as your keyboard and ISP. Think "on-line". I buy some wine in small batches from: www.ultimatewineshop.com

Bob, it's hard to beat Carnivor as a budget Cabernet... as long as you like it bold (and I do). For something slightly more mellow, try 14 Hands (Columbia Valley, WA), either their Cabernet or their "Hot to Trot" red blend. We're not big on white wines, so we paired the "Hot to Trot" with the T-giving turkey and ham and it went nicely.

Gascon makes a good Malbec as does Punta Final. Layer Cake is another nice one. I've been on a Malbec an tempranillo kick lately. My go to cab is Educated Guess.

Norton also makes a decent Malbec. Bodega Norton Malbec Reserva is the full name. Less than $20/bottle. My favorite Malbec (to date) is Los Clop, about $18/bottle.

Picked up 14 Hands a couple nights ago, eager to try it. Thought the Carnivoir was just so-so, but not sure if I grabbed the Cab or the Blend. But I'll keep trying....
