My oldest daughter is 9, approaching 10. She is in the fourth grade and deals with the drama that young girls deal with. We were just sitting in the living room today and I asked her about the recent drama in her class. She said, "No, I just stay away from her. You know, DISTANCE FROM DISORDER." I couldn't have been happier with her answer. She's going to do well in life when I'm gone. PROUD, and I do mean PROUD, to raise such good kids. Thanks for letting me share the moment.

Indeed we do. If kids see parents getting all caught up in BS and drama, that's what they'll do too.

We all know "that" someone that can't seem to live without some sort of drama or conflict in their life. Had a conversation with one of my partners today about that very thing. I have family that are that way. I have distant myself and my own family from them to include social media "unfriending" and such. No time for drama. Too busy living life.

Sounds like an awesome kid. I went to Stubbs Elementary school there in 5th and 6th grades.

Very cool. I'm sure a lot has changed since then. Lubbock has gone through changes, good and bad, over the past 15 years. The "good" schools have been infiltrated by the rats of society. Sad.

Great going! As I've seen it kids will do what their parents say, if a parent says "you're such a bad kid!" the child is going to think it's okay to act badly. Sounds to me like you've been doing a top-notch job! Keep it up, brother!

I got home last night from John Chamber's HRO Rural Patrolling class near Austin Tx. Both days it was 93 degrees and humid and we all spent most of the weekend, including the ambush and assault intervals in thick Texas scrub and brush and in the woods crawling, belly crawling, fighting through prickly vines and spider webs, and sweating camo facepaint off while carrying full combat loads and copious amounts of water.....after class ended on Sunday I just dropped my gear, stripped and threw on some shorts and a t-shirt and hit the road back to Houston.
When I got home after my 2.5 hour drive, my 4yo son eagerly met me at the door. I knelt down and gave him a big hug... and knowing I had been at and SI class for for the weekend he stepped back... camo paint smudged all over his cheek and he exclaimed,
"Daddy, you smell like war!!"
he got another bear hug after that one.

If that ain't powerful right there:
"Daddy, you smell like war!"
Kids do have a knack for seeing right to the heart.

"Teach a child in the way they should go and they will not depart from it."
I heard that somewhere.
Remember it starts with teach. You can show and cajole and require all you want but the result is short term. Teaching means they know why they do things. It makes all the difference.
