I know its silly but Im seriously jonesing for a Audi A8 W12. Its the car used in the Transporter movies and TV series (OK not the first movie for you purists). Everything I read says it it THE CHOICE for a Luxury Performance vehicle. Im jonesing because they MSRP for $140K+. A step down is the "regular" A8 ($85K); but the W12 is a 12 cylinder and the "regular" A8 is only 8 cylinders and geared to luxury, while the W12 adds performance to the luxury.

Im trying to convince myself the S6 will be cool; but even though its geared to performance and is still very nice, its not the W12.

I know its silly but I keep thinking about how I could afford the W12's $1700 payments (for 72 months)...... Aint wanting a bitch...............

My buddy is an Audi dealership mechanic. He says it's the best car they've ever made.

If you can swing it, I'd get one if I was you.

Damn Bro thats not helping..........but its good to hear. I keep telling HeadShrinkHer that I'll retire from the PD and drive her to work everyday in it. She says no black tie, it has to have some colour; but the black suit is OK. Im thinking Id want to add a HK Operational Briefcase and the MP5K.

We have three Audi...a Q7, a Q5, and an S4. The S4 is a rocket ship fighter plane. I dare not publish how fast I have driven it on the highway. I drove an s* once and it is similar, but faster. A bit big for us now...but an amazing vehicle. The Audi dealerships are a pleasure to work with.

OK boss, Soooooo maybe a S6 isnt such a step down, its certainly closer to being affordable. Any thoughts on Audi Certified Pre Owned? Ive been crunching some numbers the S4 is do-able but it seems small. The S6 is bigger; but the back is tight compared to the cavernous A8.?????

I am a big fan of the CPO program or getting a lease return. My Benz S550 was $70,000 off original MSRP with 31,000 miles on it; looked brand new and has a warranty that covers everything. The dealer is a client of mine, so my deal was a little better than most, but rich people get tired of their cars quickly and trade them in for half what they're worth.

Like a used Glock: hard to pass up and runs just fine leaving money for an OST RMR and suppressor sights:)

Edel, maybe it's not your cup of tea but a few year old S8 with V10 may be a good compromise? I used to have a D2 S8 (like Ronin, only 2002) and it's still my favorite car by far I've ever owned.

Agree that Audi makes a great vehicle, both my daughters have Q5's, safe all purpose vehicles that can't be beat for the money, better than wifes' X5, IMHO.
My daily vehicle is a 2010 Mercedes s63 AMG and looking to replace it. I looked at the A8 and it was impressive, but decided on a 2016 s63 AMG instead, take a peak at the s63 before making a final purchase.

Just for some car porn http://thegarage.jalopnik.com/how-to-make-a-used-audi-sedan-sound-like-a-lamborghini-1619884688

I know the guys at ECS in Akron that could make Audis sing.

A twelve cylinder automobile is a balm for the soul. They are so smooth and sound like no other. Remember a V-12 Ferrari from the 60's displaced about 302 cubic inches, just like a Ford Mustang. But with more cylinders that are smaller...it revs so much quicker and is so smooth...life is too short to drive a car that is not fun. You spend too much time behind the wheel to sell yourself short.

OK guys Im not a motor-head like some of you. I can tell you how internal combustion "works" but I don't have a clue how to change my own oil..... Sooooo how old is TOO OLD and how many miles are TOO MANY. Im sure Id be reasonably safe buying from an Audi dealer and maybe even CarMax; but what if I go "off the reservation"? I was originally thinking a max of 30,ooo miles and nothing older than 2012; but Im seeing some good looking stuff on line with 50K+......

Edel: I strongly recommend a certified preowned from the dealer as the warranties are very good and Audis do take some maintenance.. The higher the horsepower, the less trusting I am of high mileage, especially from a used car dealer or a private party.
You might also check online reports on the particular model you settle on. For Mercedes, I know that 2008-2011 their electronics sucked, but post '12 was good to go.

Most dealers will have a good supply of lease returns with 24-36k miles. Since the owner knows they have to turn it in, they tend to treat them well so they don't get dinged on the wear and tear. The maintenance was all included from the manufacturer at those low miles, so it is pretty safe.

At 50k plus, these cars could be out of warranty and need something very expensive to fix....I would avoid them or, at least, have an Audi mechanic look it over and give you an estimate of repairs for the next 50k miles to add to your spreadsheet of expenses.
