Work is coming along on the new range. I hope to be done mid September.
Edit: Can someone smarter than me fix this pic?

I can squeeze out 200 meters but I have a tower to shoot from at about 150 meters. Behind the backstop is 7 acres of prime Florida swampland. I plan to put another layer of Hescos on the sides. Was planning to line the backstop with sand-filled tires, anybody have any experience with that or anyother ideas?

1/8” granules aka pea gravel aka buckshot gravel works well in tires. It leaks out more slowly than sand and water drains through quite well. Around here it’s less expensive than all but the crappiest sand
My no cents worth, proceed with caution on the tires – beyond a certain number ( 40 sticks in my head ) you can get sideways of ‘the man’. Depending on how tame the native gubbamint is this may or may not be an issue for you.
I was going to say be wary of leakers between the edge of the tires but with the ties behind that’s not much of an issue.

You can line the backstop with ground tires, like they pave running tracks and such with. In a lot of places, because it's ground and made to be used in such ways, it skirts around the stupid EPA laws or whatever are associated with just having a big pile of tires. And if you pack it tight enough, it'll stop damn near anything.
Slick lookin range, btw.

Thanks for the input. I had no idea the Feds cared how many tires I stacked up on my land. I'm surprised that I'm always surprised.

Couple things
1. old tires are prime skeeter breeding ground
2. a huge pile of burning tires can be a real mess - we had a local guy lose a couple thousand turkeys when the place locals dumped old tires on adjacent property was set on fire - I think the fire burned for the better part of a week
that and .gov loves to stick nose into most places

What coordinates A+8?
I like the chipped up tires s well idea, but was wondering where one would buy a ton of it to pack into the barrier?

I'm interested in the tire chips and found some sources on the net. Would you build a wall of 4x4s and plywood in front of the railroad ties?
