So some of you know Ive been working on Avenging Angels as groomsmen gifts. Ive got the first one almost done. The barrel has been cut and I'm thinking I may add a lanyard ring tomorrow by notching the grip so I can fit a ring between the grip and the frame. I figure that's a pretty simple 19th century "blacksmith" level modification, much easier than drilling and tapping AND stronger.
My real issue is a sight. As best I can tell many/most didn't have sights as of course they wouldn't need one at card table or contact range; but I suspect some did have a front sight. Ive seen modern versions where a coin (usually a dime) is used but that's just not calling me.
Im sorta tempted to use a gemstone, perhaps a ruby or a serious of three small medium large; but is that to pimpish? What about just one stone? For what its worth I have seen a OLD black powder express rifle with a diamond inserted in the front sight and of course lots of ivory beads; but those were rifles. not sure about a belly gun.
My other "idea" was to try to solder a strip of brass or maybe silver wire the length of the barrel as a sort of arrow pointing to the target. These guns are shooter grade but Im not sure my groomsmen will ever shoot them which is perfectly fine. They are meant to be gifts that I had a hand crafting them from factory to gifts formed with love.
I'll post pics as soon as they are complete
Thoughts? suggestions? Ideas?
