Great photos. I don't think you learned that along Milledge Av (unless it was scaling the walls at Tri-Delt)

And THOSE THINGS are what separates us from common gun people. Do something dangerous or challenging everyday.

Yes, this is in Orange. This is getting close to a large nesting alligator without getting eaten. Oh well, I'm off like Tommy Woodward's arm.

Yikes Jon, you keep some cool pets in your duck pond!!
Old saw: When you"re up to your ass in alligators, it may be difficult to remember you were in the swamp to drain it. Just sayin'...

Today was Intern Range Day. It's now become an office tradition for me to gather up the summer interns for a day of shooting fun. I get a kick out of bringing new shooters into the fold, and also of sending them back to their liberal East Coast universities with a photo of them shooting an assault rifle.
Bonus: I was settling up at the clubhouse, and in walks none other than Bill Kazmaier. Wouldn't you know that today was the day I left my frying pan at home. So I just said hello and let him know how much I enjoyed watching him compete. I thought some of you would get a kick out of knowing that the Kaz is a shooter.
It was a good day of ammo expenditure.

Just got back from chasing Caimans on the Tambopata River in Peru after doing 9 miles of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Highly recommend it to anybody considering it.

A ride back in May to bring my bike from San Diego to Seattle. This was somewhere in Nevada on my way to Oregon on a stretch of road where I was pretty certian I would run out of gas but was able to nurse it to the next town. Lots of fun and good eats that day along with finishing up about 700+ miles of riding in the rain over 2 days.

Now that's a name I haven't heard in some time, it is good to know that he's still around, and apparently, doing well. I went to a seminar he put on some years ago, a great guy to talk too.

Don`t have pics but took an old girlfriend (lost contact when I was 3, got it back a few months ago) out for a quick walk in the woods, shot the Recce out to 250, and relaxed in front of a zombie movie. Not as high-flying as most responses here but I`ve gotta say, my heart was fluttering throughout, great girl.

No mountains, glaciers, or motorcycles (almost took my bike) ... but I needed some place to put this:
This week I conducted an in-person debrief with the Chief of Security for one of the largest companies in the world, wearing a suit with unwelcome Glock in tow, no less. At the end of the presentation, in which I told him, his VPs, and his Senior Managers how my team and I infiltrated EVERYTHING and stole EVERYTHING of value, he thanked me, congratulated the work, verbally committed to more work and renewed contracts ... and then ... with a very pale, sweaty face ... abruptly ended the meeting after informing me of his impending nausea. We shook hands and he left for the men's room.

Dude, you have a seriously awesome job. Work from home, live in an awesome place far from the masses, make a lot of money, and get to do this. In another life, I'd like to be you... :notworthy:

I'll play, had a good weekend. Not hardcore hiking or ice climbing, but Thursday twisted a recipe from Gabe and had some "Hot n Juicy" shrimp and clams. Saturday morning dove hunt, Saturday night striper fishing...caught the carp (6 or 7lbs) on the first cast of the night, ended with a bag of striper filets (37 fish total). Then Monday morning went back out and shot another limit of dove.

Thanks. Brother, I'm just blessed to have landed in a career I enjoy that also happens to pay well for the foreseeable future. Lots of hard work but also lots of fortuitous events. For example, I'm grateful my dad bought me computers back in the 1980s. (Yes, I survived the nerd jokes.) I think he knew it was important back then, but he would be amazed if he was still alive. What's crazy is how much I still have to learn after decades of this. It never ends.
If you have kids that have technical aspirations, get them to learn how to code ASAP. If they also have curiosity about breaking software-- encourage it! If they can do all that and explain it in plain English so that anyone understands, they'll be golden!

Just got back from Valdez. The drive takes a lot longer when you keep stopping to go tromp through the woods.

The Tsina River. Getting this one was a bit tricky. I should have had a rope. And a harness. And a friend. But somehow I made it back alive.

Dude, I hate I5 as much as the next guy (especially the stretch from Grapevine to Redding), but going into Nevada's sort of overstating things a bit, no?

You carry a tripod?Often, yes. But for that shot, I actually just braced the camera on a rock.
While all of the skinny-jeans-wearing art students would be mortified by the concept, I've found that the traditional techniques for non-supported rifle and pistol shooting have improved my camera skills, as well. Whether you are trying to hold your muzzle steady for a distant shot through high grass or trying to hold your lens steady for a 1/4 second exposure, the fundamentals of shooting and the methods of supporting and steadying human anatomy apply equally to both missions.
