My go to rum is Pussers Navy … not that I go to it very often – a bottle will last the better part of a year
What else is out there?

I had just about given up on finding a good sipping rum. Pretty much come to the conclusion that rum was just not my thing, regardless of the good advice I'd gotten here and other places.
Then I found Dictador Colombian rum. I'm very happy sipping on this when I'm in the mood. The 12 yo is less that $50. I may spring for a 20 yo one of these days, it's not that much more.

As a veritable former expert in these matters, I will make a VERY strong recommendation. The absolutely FINEST rum I've ever tried is Ron Zacapa 23 Años. It is relatively inexpensive at around $45, but puts to shame many liquors costing several times as much.
As with all such things, it is absolutely imperative that it be enjoyed straight, warm, and well aerated. It's probably one of the very few finest, if not THE finest, liquor I've ever tried. And typically I'm an Armagnac and Cognac aficionado and former liquor store owner of many years.

For sipping, Zacapa 23. For everything else, I'm a Don Q guy.

Appletons 12yo, if you can find it.
They only import a little every year from Jamaica, so once it's gone it's gone. Gotta catch it the following year.

Mount Gay XO. Much better than Eclipse. I second H60's recommendation for Appleton 12yr. That's a fine libation right there................when available.
Mount Gay Black Barrel is also good. Enjoying one now as the sun sets on a beautiful Friday evening in Barbados.

Decided to take the plunge in to the rum this morning while doing my grocery shopping.

I like it! Wasn't sure if it was a shooter or a sipper. So had a glass each way just to make sure.

Any cigar suggestions? Have a shop I can walk to later to pick one up.

Another vote for Zacapa 23. Is the best rum I've ever tasted. Nothing comes close.
