Changing jobs.

Current gig is IT/Data Analytics so in a desk / khakis and golf shirt kinda deal. New one is organizing , scheduling and managing disaster recovery and disaster training ‘stuff’. I’ll have a couple warehouses full of disaster supplies, vehicles and trailers, even a couple fork trucks. Anyways while I’m out “in the shop” as they call this place. I need some boots. Not steel toe but good solid boots.

I need suggestions for some boots that would be

dressy enough to wear in khaki and golf shirt environment
supportive enough to be crawling around in the warehouse and vehicles.
something that will take a shine would be ideal

Stealth boots. My shit kickers out on the farm are Danner RAT if that helps at all.

Thoughts?

Redwing.

I wore 8" lace up with steel shank for years when working telephone lineman & construction. Great boots and comfortable. I don't know if they still do, but they used to "break" a pair of boots for $10 if your feet were different sizes. Also, they would size/stretch boots for comfort & eliminate hot spots.

Later, as engineer, I switched to oxfords. They would probably work in your "shop" environment.

Red Wings last forever compared to most boots especially on concrete. Guys here in the hanger wear them all the time.

I wear Danners. I've got 6" and 8" boots, all leather, some with insulation and some without. They allow me to run to court without changing footwear. So I can hike up a trail for lunch and go straight to my afternoon hearings afterward. If I lived someplace hot, I would look for something else. Even the non-insulated boots are a bit warm in summer.

They are good, try and get the white thick soles. Take a bit to break in but they are the most comfortable boot I have ever owned.

The Merrell Moab Mid Rovers I just bought are the most comfortable boots I've ever owned, and they're very supportive and tough, too. Check 'em out!

Budget?

Allen Edmonds has some "dressy" boots, but they start about 295. You can have them recrafted (I bought a pair off ebay, wore them for 3-5 years, and then sent them back for recrafting. For $70 they came back practically new).

This is very similar to the boot I have: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF6645_1_40000000001_-1?style=6645, but I wouldn't consider that "dressy", just "nice".

These are more dressy: http://www.allenedmonds.com/aeonline/producti_SF0112_1_40000000001_-1?style=0116 but unsuited to rougher environments.

Alden makes some really nice looking boots in the same price range more or less, but they're not "dressy" http://www.aldenshoe.com/DrawProducts.aspx?CategoryID=27&PageID=8

Redwing has both their Heritage Collection http://www.redwingheritage.com/USD/footwear which is going to be a little bit upscale and their regular work boots (www.redwing.com). None of their regular line (work boots) look at all "business casual" to me, but I'm a bit picky. Some of the boots in their Heritage Collection do look very nice though. They are also in the $300 range.

Chippewa also has some that look ok.

You might also try going to Zappos and playing around with their search engine.

Oh, and you're no longer in IT, so you have to be told "Brown Shoes, Brown belt, Black Shoes Black Belt. Black shoes and belt with light khaki pants is wrong". :)

The thing about nicer boots is that they tend to last longer and can be re-soled or even rebuilt. If you take care of them.

Nice!

I was hoping to keep the price south of $200 but looks like that's not going to work.

For the time being I have a pair of Bates Chucka's from the local uniform storethe EMT/Paramedic guys use. They're actually not too bad a boot

Thanks guys

the Merrells I mentioned go for $140 most places, but I found them online for $90. Of course, you DID post this in the Bon Vivant section, so you're going to get some spendy suggestions...
