View Full Version : Gang Unit vs. Grab and Stab

Which one should I get and why?

Both is the obvious answer but I want reasoning on why/when one is better than the other.

My XL Voyager, Leatherman Wave, and Choirboy need a new companion.

If ease of hiding is the priority = Gang Unit. If ease of use is = GNS

The GU is normally carried OWB while the GnS is carried IWB right? Wouldn't that make the GU faster to deploy?

I'm leaning towards the GU, simply because of the carry method and because it's a smaller blade. I don't see the point in going with the 3.95" blade over the 2.5". I'd think I'd rather have a smaller more concealable blade OR the largest that I can legally carry (5.5").

Thoughts?

I have a Gang Unit...I am ordering the GNS but the GU is my EDC.

I carried both IWB. GNS faster because of larger grip, but GU definitely conceals better.

If you have an issue concealing a GnS... A smaller knife isn't what you should be focused on. Just saying.

I have no experience with the GU... But my GNS hides quite nicely

NPE situations, I prefer the smaller knife. The GU handle is also somewhat unconventional, so most people won't pick up what is there. Ultimately though, you're correct, it doesn't make much difference. My GU even made it through Canadian Customs when they tossed my truck and made me empty my pockets (camping knife). I doubt the GNS would have made it, but that's conjecture.

I have to tuck my shirt it at work. Sammy said what I was thinking. I don't the the GU would draw much attention even if carried OWB with shirt tucked.

I know I CAN conceal a GnS, hell, I conceal my Glock and spare mag.

In my eyes, the GU would be more of a reactive blade.

I have my CS XL Voyager as a proactive blade, although I would rather have a good 5.5" fixed blade with a nice sheath (preferably designed, manufactured, sold, and tested by one perfectionist pirate).

I may have a sheath made for my CS Peacemaker 5.5" and carry that IWB for a while.

I was really hoping you would chime in. I knew that as soon as I ordered the GU or GnS you would unveil something that I would want even more.

So come on man, quit being a c*ck tease and spill the beans!

I have several knives as well as other projects coming this year. As I said, 2015 will be the year we focus on our own stuff and not other people's stuff. Knives will be a big part of that focus.

An rough estimate on the release dates?

Gabriel Suarez

Throughout the year. Right now production is focused on slides. Next "new knife"...maybe by summer.

Are you willing to release initial design concepts? I'm in the market and was considering the GNS, but will hold off depending on your offerings.

Nope...not going to do that yet because as much thievery as there is in the gun industry...its worse in the knife industry. I will say that they will be the same genre as the GNS. Its not a this vs. that...each one has its own purpose and its own story.

Fair enough. I'll just get the GNS and wait for future offerings as well.

Sweet! I will wait and see. Hopefully the GNS doesn't go away and I can order it later.

I'm about to order four of either the GnS or the GU. I'm getting married next month and can't decide which ones to get for groomsmen gifts. Which one?!?!

I like the gang unit as my personal blade...personally.

Either will do. I like the GnS, but have no experience with the GU

Why the GU over the GnS? Where/how do you carry it?

I'm not answering for Gabe but IMHO the GU is easier to carry NPE and gets the job done very efficiently. Plus its easier to dispose of. Just my .02

Any possibility one of those is a push blade style knife?

I vote Grab n STAB. Main word is STAB. I would rather have 4" than 2" to stab with. Though I do love my GU.

I'm pretty much set on the Gang Unit. I was thinking about getting them engraved. What would be a cool phrase or quote?

I ended up with four Gang Units. I love them. My only issue is the bead blasted finish tends to oxidize rather easily. I'll probably coat mine.

Received my Gang Unit today.

I thought I had seen pictures with this being carried IWB and mostly horizontal. Is that done with the Tek-Lok or some other way? It is currently set up OWB horizontal.

Kind Regards,

James

Take off the Tek-Lok, add a loop of 550, and PRESTO!!! IWB carry is a reality.

Matthew Sweeney
06-10-2015, 01:56 PM
You can also set it up for use with an IWB loop(s), like the Bladetech loops on the Archangel holster for example.

Thank you both! I'll look at those options. I'm going to order an NPE for my G43 so maybe go all in with the 550.

Will he strip the hydro dipped finish on my Classic Bowie? If so I need to get his info. I'll send him both.

You could put some mustard on the whole thing, make some real pretty designs, and wipe it off after 15 minutes. This helps protect against rust too.
