SAT Phone

Let me start with this, I have zero need for a SAT Phone, or at least no need that I know of; but everytime I see some cool guy on TV /Movies using one, I keep thinking, "Why dont I have one." I thought about buying one before my last safari; but cell phone coverage is pretty good in South Afrika, so it wasnt even worth renting one. Im still toying with going to Zimbabwe and Botswana, etc; so I may have a use sometime in the future.

Anybody have one or use one on their own dime?

Pros / Cons of buying one?

Brother-of-mine,

I rent one when I go travelling up the Inside Passage, and in the Arctic, they are handy, pick a system that has coverage for your AO.

I was considering getting one for my current location, to deal with cell phone and radio dead spots. No joy, they need to see to much sky for here. I'm going with some wacky ham radio approaches instead.
