I went to an emergency call last night involving a drunk driver+passenger going off the road into the ocean. At about 2am. It took...a while...to deal with. Everybody lived, so yay.

The accident was right next to my buddy's beach and oyster beds. He let me grab a huge pile of oysters on my way out this morning.

I've just finished oyster #180. Pretty much all I've been eating today. Shades of Diamond Jim Brady.

This last few dozen I just threw on the grill for 3-4 minutes to pop 'em open, I'm done shucking for the day.

Zum Wohl!

That sounds like a good day to me! What wine do you like to have with oysters?

I like clams more than oysters but that is only because clams are fresher here in the NE. (LI Cherrystones with a squirt of lemon) I had some in Quebec that were just plucked out of the water from one of the PEI farms and it was spectacular.

That's a Siegerrebe from my vineyards, which is perfect for Pacific NW seafood, it's sort of between Gewürztraminer and Madeleine Angevine, and is a great match for our usual growing season here.

Our clams here are epic too. It's almost embarrassing how easy it would be to live the hunter-gatherer lifestyle here.

You are a blessed man! Oyster heaven. The best ones I've had lately were in New Orleans and Charleston. Some worry about eating too many bottom feeders, but that's not me!

I have done 10 dozen at the Acme Oyster House in New Orleans and still had room for more.

Those are missed terrible here in CO.

My dad was seriously into oysters. He took my mom out for seafood on their first date and ordered a dozen on the half shell. My mom tried one and asked how they were cooked. He said, "With a knife."

Moderation is not necessary with shrimp on the grill either - 96 personal best.

I ate 68 in a minute for a contest back in the 80's. I much prefer actually tasting my seafood.

The first time I ate a raw oyster as a kid I think I swallowed it eight times.

I was told that raw oysters were an aphrodisiac, so one night I tried a dozen.

Only 8 of them worked, was I ripped off?

Nice feast! The wine definitely caught my eye. I have tried a Siegerrebe before in the NW and really enjoyed it. You don't see them much at all in the SE. I don't know if I can find a Washington varietal here in Atlanta but I will check on a German one. Thanks for sharing - the pictures at least :)

On our first date I took my future wife to The Atlantic Fish Company on Boylston Street in Boston. All she ate for dinner was raw oysters and Guinness.
I needed to marry that woman.

I love fresh oysters I especially miss trying all the different kinds from up and down the PNW coast. It is hard to believe there is such a difference. We used to get them by the bushel in Yaquina bay, a little rice wine vinigar, a challot or two and a bit of grated fresh ginger. I would eat them all day.

Luv em, but have to say I have never ate more than a dozen or so at any one time.

The Oyster House is sadly better pre-Katrina than post. The Oysters Rockefeller were outstanding though, but the raw oysters are not quite as good. Still, better to have eaten than not!

Just had a mess of grilled clams yesterday, they were fantastic. This thread has reminded me to eat more Sea Food.

P.S. Oh, and by "mess" I mean I got whatever my GF didn't get to first. If I put seafood in front of that woman I sometimes feel like I'm in a Discovery Channel documentary.

Aren't oysters supposed to do something to the libido?
