Honestly I'm not too much of a beer guy, but sometimes drink a cold cider on those occasions where others would go for a beer. (after a day of yardwork, etc...) My two favorites are Angry Orchard Ginger Cider and ACE Perry Hard Cider (a pear cider from CA). Anyone else have a favorite brand?

I like something that a large chain restaurant was promoting a while back... Angry Orchard with a shot of Jack...

I will occasionally have a Hornsby's, when I don't feel like Bud Light. Bon vivant indeed.

Yeah, I like it. I especially like it with 1/3 cider with 2/3 Guiness floating on top.

A "Black & Tan" when made with Blackthorns Hard Cider & Guiness ?

Fond memories of these!!

Crispin, especially their seasonal honeycrisp cider.

Mangers Irish cedar. Both pear and apple. You can find it at World Market.
Also, Strongbow cedar is pretty good.

I love cider. There are quite a few local producers, I don't discriminate, it's all pretty good.

I try to produce ~100 cases of apple-pear wine each year, and it usually sells out pretty quickly, saving me the calories of drinking it all :-)

Another good use for hard Cider

1 crock pot
1 bottle cider - I like Angery Orchard Traditional Dry
1 nice pork butt
good brown mustard - the grittier the better

rub a nice layer of mustard on the pork butt put in crock pot
pour cider over butt

cook low 8 hrs minimum , 10 hours is better you want to break down the connective tissue in the butt

remove butt put on platter - it should fall appart into pieces - use forks to pull appart

put the pulled appart pork back into the crock pot to re-absorb the juices

serve on rice with coleslaw

So where do we put in our orders?

Cider BBQ Sauce - apologies to the old southern gentleman who taught me the original that I hacked up but I was making some one day and wife was drinking a cider and some just fell in ...

1/2 pound butter
1/4 cup white vinegar
1/4 cup hard cider (drink the rest of it)
juice of 1 lemon
1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
red pepper flakes to taste

melt butter - stir like crazy to mix the rest of the stuff in

this is a very watery sauce but great on pulled pork and rice

I picked up the taste for cider in Irish pubs many years ago. From a bottle, Woodchuck is my favorite.

Woodchuck Amber rocks. Their seasonal Spring Cider has a hint of maple syrup. Goes down really smooth.

Crispin, especially their seasonal honeycrisp cider.

I'll second this. It's a bit pricey, but I like it better than Angry Orchard.
