I don't always drink Martinis...but when I do, they are made with Belvedere, and served at Lelani's

Sometimes it seems my avoidance of alcohol has me well and truly missing out on the whole experience of Bon Vivant living....

I don't drink nearly as much as I used to, but when I do it's the good stuff, which includes the fantastic wine my neighbor makes. I'm not saying you need to booze to be bon Vivant, but it doesn't hurt, really...

Can't beat the circulatory benefits ... in moderation of course.

Ahh...Belvedere. My favorite...with a twist and an olive. Shaken...love the ice crystals.

I was going to start a thread on that topic as I've never had a drink in my life lol.

In my youth I took part in many life altering poor choices....not the least of which usually included strong drink.

If its not for you..then its not for you. Drive on. I don't plan to alter my POV on this. America seems to be the only place where people have such strong feelings about this. In Europe and South America drinking wine or beer or something else with a meal is common and done by everyon from police to clergy to anyone. Funny...I never saw any drunks there.

This particular on had no olives...but did have a lime slice.

I dont drink beer much anymore as it will make you look like a Pilsbury shooting instructor in short order. I do enjoy a glass or two of good wine with dinner...or with conversation and company. Sometimes...such as discussed...we try the local recipes. I have tasted Pisco in Chile...Slivavitza in Slovakia...Guajiro in Spain...and something called Rakshi in someplace I dont recall the name.

Wasn't trying to imply there was anything wrong with it. I couldn't care less. I just never wanted to and was more curious if not drinking was another example of how uncommon I am in many respects lol.

I didn't intend to seem as though I looked down upon alcohol consumption. I don't-
As you say though, it isn't for me.

My comment was meant as a dash against myself for having acted such an ass years back that I've come to avoid it all together (like some do with speedy cars).

I am still intrigued with the conversations and comments that those with smart palates have about the subtle flavors of upper end wines - like the 2007 aged bottle you posted in the other thread.

I suppose what I'm saying is I wish I hadn't ruined it for myself...

I regret if I spoiled the vibe of what was a vibrant discussion :flowers:

My first legal drink back on my 21st birthday was a "vodka martini, shaken, not stirred," in honor of Agent 007. Later, I took up Bombay Sapphire gin martini in homage to "Demo Dick" Marcinko of SEAL Team 6.

I'm driving with my teenage daughter on the next island over the other day, going to a music lesson. She looks out the window and casually remarks "the vines in our vineyard there are coming along nicely, don't you think"?

She pauses....

"We aren't like normal people, are we Dad?"

"No, does that bother you?"

"No. Can we stop in and see how the last bottling is doing?"

"Sure, dear."

Wine is one of those little things that shows God loves us.

I have heard that before too. Little girls saying that are also one of His gifts.

Don't know about that.
But, there are a lot that drink I won't trust. And with good reason I feel.
Would not trust them if they only drank water either!

There are all kinds of things in life an individual may be better off avoiding. If its glutton, dairy or alcohol it does not matter. Self control is not always enough. Compensate by enjoying the rest of God's great gifts in life. Because of health reasons there is a whole list of things I have had to cut back on. My answer is if I must be satisfied with less quantity I will increase the quality even more.

But after reading the tread I am reminded that I have no issue with a favorite variation of the potable with a Jenever foundation.

That's kind of where I am for much the same reason. In a world with gunpowder, women, and gasoline, I was just never interested all that much in trying booze. That, and my mother's side of the family has had enough alcoholics, without me potentially adding another one.
