I'm not much of a gambler but I was invited to go to the race track today with some friends. I haven't been to a track in about 6 years. I sat down and looked over the program. I have a basic understanding of the types of bets and types of races but it's very basic. While trying to figure out my "system" for my winning picks I began daydreaming of my afternoon as a high roller. I quickly returned to earth and realized I better stick with what I know best and that's to bet like a chick.:rolleyes1: For those that aren't familiar with the "chick pick system", it's when you pick a horse or horses based entirely on name, color, and look. Forget the stats and odds. Stick with the good science like a cool name.
This system worked exactly how I expected. I left a LOSER with lighter pockets.:frown:
So why am I sharing this story??? I had 3 very satisfying wins and they were "BARBARIC" to win and a second exacta bet that included "BARBARIC". My third satisfying bet was "GABE'S GOLD". Old Gabe only showed but it wasn't a loss.
It's kinda funny how once this place gets into your veins you carry it with you everywhere you go.

Wife, a friend of hers, and I spent Saturday at Turfeay park in Florance Ky. She didn't bry but her friend just bet favorites and left $18 richer. We just love to watch the horses.

It's worth the extra hour and twenty minutes to drive to Keeneland. Spring meet starts in two weeks!

Back in college, I worked summers at the local horse track punching tickets. I learned that chick picks were just as likely to hit as the pros. One afternoon, 1-3 hit for the first 3 races. We all started betting 1-3 and it hit every race but one. It was a good day. And every once in a while you hit big. I got stuck with an incorrectly punched ticket (those came out of your pocket) and it hit for $1700.00. :yahoo:That was a buttload of money for a college student in the 80's.
Haven't been back since.

I know, we're thinking about it. We normally do, make it a weekend and visit the Horse Park. My wife wants to see Funny Cide.

LOL I bet it was. I remember a few years ago at the Kentucky Derby, my wife wanted to get some coffee, so I took out a 20 and give it to her. She came back with Starbucks and a few coins. Little did I know she to the rest and bit it. She bought dinner.
