So, Gabe, when do we get to ride to private training classes in the SI Group company jet?

After some study of the subject, I have concluded it is best to have good friends who own jets, or to buy a share of a jet through a company like Netjets, than to have your own entire jet, unless you travel a great deal, or simply don't care about the cost and bother :-)

Might we see a 0-60,000 feet, Dynamic Air Combat in the near future? Along those lines I recommend an SU-25 for an SI craft, fast flexible and deadly beast with plenty of storage.....think supersonic A-10 ;)

Yeah, all of that pretty much describes airplanes in general. The worst thing for any airplane is to not be flown enough.

Great article!

Jets are expensive, but consider this. You can charter a light jet (6 pax comfortably) for 2,000 an hour. Cleveland -Teterboro-Cleveland is about 2 hours. 4,000/6= about 670 bucks per person.

No TSA anal probe, free parking, catering, you depart when YOU are ready to depart and you are treated with the utmost respect as a customer of any business should be.

Not a bad deal.

Being an aircraft mechanic/crewchief, I can tell you that the costs of owning and operating your very own biz jet are phenomenal....when compared to even just the initial price tag. Aircraft parts are expensive on a level that most can't imagine, seemingly arbitrarily at times. You have to pay for a crew to fly and cater your jet. You have to pay for mechanic(S) that's plural. You probably won't find a one stop shop in that regards. You have to pay for ramp space, and hanger fees when needed. Fuel, as pointed out in the article is quite expensive. You can figure at almost $4 a gallon for the good stuff (Jet A, or the like). HOWEVER, all that being said. I can, as well as anyone here who's ever traveled any distance in a private and catered jet will attest to this. If you have what you feel is enough money to take on this venture, it's an investment you won't regret. I've ridden along in a couple, and the only word I can use is AMAZING. If you don't want to spend the money on all this stuff, chartering a jet isn't a bad way to go. Especially if you don't fly often, it would save you a lot of money. Of course, so would just using a public airlines.

Don't forget insurance. My ex brother in law was certified to fly his Citation solo. He had nothing but time and money, used to go to KC I think for training. The insurance company didn't like it and basically raised his insurance so it was cheaper to hire a co-pilot. He went to twin turbo prop, I know he misses his jet.

You are correct about the luxury, nothing like it the few times I traveled with him. Few years back some rag interviewed 10 ex top CEO's and asked the perk they missed the most. It wasn't boxes at Superbowl's or access to other high end events...to a man it was use of the corporate jet.

Ah yes, I forgot about the insurance. When i think of aviation insurance prices, the phrase that comes to mind is "retard strength".

As somebody who hates flying, (I never had a problem with small planes and helicopters, and yes, - I did the 'Para' course when I was an RMC, - jumping out of perfectly good planes,) I prefer to drive. - Especially when I am driving myself.

If somebody offers me a choice of ship or a plane, on which to travel to Europe, the USA or Africa etc, - I'll take the ship. - Despite the time of travel required.

Yep, some of us just don't like the big long tubes of aluminium, that are formed into commercial planes.

Now.............a private jet does seem to sound great.
But a bit out of my league, - financially.
