My kid and wife went over to the mainland today to look at violas.

My kid is a semi-pro violist, and wants to upgrade her current instrument and bow, on loan from a friend who plays for the Met Opera, before college. She is paying for most of this project out of her own earnings.

She went to a couple of high-end stringed instrument shops in/near The Big City, this was primarily a learning exercise.

She came back with 5 loaner instruments, and 3 bows. Instruments are valued at $5k-$35k. Neither shop so much as asked for a credit card. They were all about helping her figure out what sort of instrument would work best for her. These are just for her to experiment with, before they get down to brass tacks tracking down The Right Instrument.

Yes, they let a 15 year old kid walk out with like $125k of hardware, on a handshake and simply knowing the name of her teacher.

So, I bet they'll be getting our business.

My great customer service experience...

Back in the early 90s, Minolta loaned me about 15K worth of camera equipment. I walked out of there with 2 9xi bodies and a bag full of lenses, including a 300 mm 2.8 and a 600mm 4.0. I shot the El Toro air show with their gear and won several awards with the photos. All on a signature and a copy of my DL.
