Anyone on WT into hi end home audio?
We are not talk the junk from the chain electrinics store with the latest I-marketing whatever.

Lets talk JL audio, Machintosh, Class A, Crown, B&W, Salk, even old school U.S. made JBL or Vega's......

If so what is you set up?

I was at a friends house over Christmas and he just got the BeoPlay A9 from Bang & Olufsen. It was around 2700.00 and wireless, hanging on the wall. Pretty cool...I'm thinking of one for my man cave. It was a complete package in 1 unit and the sound was what you would expect from B&O...I have MartinLogan (US made) speakers and like the NAD Electronics receiver I have. Depending on the space you have there is a lot of room to move and money is not the whole issue. That BeoPlay was a whole lot less than my speakers and sounded great. Just my .02

crown amps and ads l910 reference monitors.

these days i dont think there is much difference upstream of the lineout between retail and high end. assuming cd / mp3 digital source material which is all i listen to.

Very nice! MartinLogan has very impressive projection for the dollar....

At this time I have to rooms set up for audio.
My game room / gun room consist of an old Technics reciever <not hi end but there are future plans  ,2 old U.S. made Vega 8' book shefls in black venere for hi's and mids, 2 commercial line 12' JBL control-SB-2 subs (originally intended for a jazz bar in Austin Tx. but the owner changed his mind on gear so I got a great deal on them) all wired with Monster and Rockfish.

Everyone's ear is different. I don't mind vinal or a quality wave file CD but MP3 is so packed as a file they sound like total trash.
I had the oppertunity to play with a set of $15,000 B&W's with 2 JL audio F-112's in a sound room Saturday and there is a serious difference!

I bought a JL F-113 after spending a few hours there. The free wine and open humidor may have helped that sale , :yahoo:out with the 2 JBL 15's lol!
That taste is like timex and Rolex to me.

admitedly, mp3s are for background. yes, wavs for zoning out to tunes.

ever listen to a pair of l910s? if you listen to classic versus hard rock its going to be a different selection. too often it seems high end speakers focus on one criteria at the expense of all the others. at least the l910s were/are actually used in recording studios as the engineers reference montiors. :)

i recall auditioning a set of speakers one time that had the most perfect imaging ive ever heard .... and no impact at all ....

if all you care about is one aspect great. not so much for me as i listen to a diversity.

I have not but I'm always open to demo audio gear! Pick me!:yell:

If you are running a crown amp I'm sure its impresive. I friend once used a Crown and a 22" JBL Sub for low end and a pair of Vega 15" LE towers for mids and High's.
Was not cristal clean but made for a great party set up LMAO!

The imaging of the Salk's is what I love about them. When people sit in my living room to listen to them that have never been in front of a set up such as that they start looking for a center speaker since all the voices come fom the center then they ask how is that possable.
Imaging is always first for me, then high's that are clean but not bleeding. The mids on my Salks are clean enough you can actually hear the bass line and on some recordings the fingers slide on the strings.
I like strong lows but not ghetto caddi lows. My preferance is something that will get down to 20Hz or even lower. That is what sold me on the JL line. It is capable of 20Hz with very little effort and can take a full 4 inches of excusion.

I used to be really into the high-end audio thing.

Too many years riding motorcycles, shooting, and simply getting older have turned out to have saved me a fortune, long-term, on high-end audio gear, as my hearing is no longer what it once was. I still love to read about all the cool gear though :-)

Now I prefer to make my own live music, which has better imaging anyways:

I'm still running my old JBL L80t's and Polk Audio RTA 11t. My old Denon pre-amp and power amp need repair. I've since bought a Yamaha receiver.
I don't have a turn table anymore; but I wonder if cds really are better than albums for sound quality. Most cds really are lacking in clarity.
I had a buddy when I was stationed in Japan had some high dollar mono-block amps....I think they were Krell if I'm not mistaken. He had some serious money in his stereo. Too much $$$ for me.

Bae, I like the upright bass. I play electric bass. I have a Status Empathy 5 (cocobolo), Fender Jazz and a few Carvins (LB75, Icon 5 fretless, SB5000).
Beautiful church!

Still have my Mac C-26 Pre-Amp, 2105 Power Amp, MR-77 Tuner and my ancient Klipsch Heresy's from decades back.
Not real high end but still good sounding to my old ears.

There is a lot of the old stuff that in todays cost would be very high end. The cheap off shore stuff had made a large gap in much of the market.
I have a buddy that got me into some of the old JBL stuff from back when Lancing was still involved it the product.
He just sold a set of 83-84 model 250TI's for well over $2000. That is what makes much of the audio stuff cool is its not played out in 6 months.
Now he is running a set of Salks with tube amps and the tubes are off of WW2 sub.

Japan still has a strong market for audio gear. There is still a lot of quality items such as old JBL designs sold there.
I like there gear because most is still focused to the 2 channel line not the 5 channel business.

Ahhhh yes...... I was in the audio industry for many years, 10 of them in the 'high' end. Fun stuff for sure. To this day, I am still amazed at the level of emotional involvement that can be found with proper equipment and setup. I concur with your finding of the JL Audio products to be excellent. What a tremendous foundation for any music and system. I've wanted to replace my Revel B15 with one but have had other priorities in the last few years.

I'm currently running Wilson Audio Sophia's, a Revel B15 subwoofer, Lexicon preamp and amps, with Transparent Audio and AudioQuest cabling. Not as good as a musician in your room like bae, but dang close.

This was certainly true (at least for me) so long as the source was a real vinyl record.
Comparatively CD's sound really crappy to me and I found that my level of interest fell off considerably once CD's effectively replaced records.

Maybe I just got too old? :blushing:
