I posted this response on another category, but the more I thought about it the more I thought it was worthy of a new thread.

Just wanted to tip my hat to Gabe on this one. Picture this...a guy with a law enforcement background starts a forum. It sings the praises of the AK-47 when the rest of the interweb is saying the AR-15 platform is the one true grail. He develops classes to perfect the technique of using the AK...all the time his reputation grows. Eventually, the rest of the interweb comes around and agrees that yes, the AK is a viable platform based largely on the performance of the 7.62 x 39 round, but also the reliablilty of the AK platform. So, like Jeff Cooper and the 1911, Gabe sits back on his throne and relishes his position as King of the AK? No, actually, by this time he has tried to get into the higher end AK market, finds dreadfull execution is commonplace and they all lack the precistion he requires, so he moves on to the SIG platform. He moved on because he is on a quest for the best. Now, remember, he could have stuck with the AK. The faithful wanted, nay, begged him to. The SIG offers less margin and WAY less availability. And yet, profit aside, Gabe went that direction because he thought that was the best platform for the tribe. In two weeks it might change again, but right now the 556R is THE rifle for the 7.62 x 39 cartridge. I don't know about you, but I have a lot of respect for this man. Many men say they cannot be bought, and few are tested. Gabe could have stuck with the AK an made more money, but he is driven to seek out the best. Character...principals...truth. It is why we are here. Merry Christmas tribe members...if that offends you, you are on the wrong forum. My brother is a Jew...when he wishes me a Happy Hanukkah I don't go crying to our mother, I appreciate that he converted because that is what he believes. So Merry Christmas and just wait until you see what Santa Gabe brings us next year!

Gabe could have stuck with the AK an made more money,

He doesn't appear to be doing too poorly with the SIGs and PTRs and things...
